Smell like a Grandma-
You’ve heard the saying, “You smell like an old Grandma” or “That perfume smells like a Grandma”- right? It’s supposed to be a bad thing. As if old ladies have poor taste in perfume. My Grandma passed away in 2005 on Easter (she was actually born on Easter as well), and I miss her a lot. Ever since then, I started using Estee Lauder products, because she always used them.
Recently I was on their website browsing the products that they are about to discontinue, and I saw the Private Collections perfume and lotion on there. Private Collection was my Grandma’s signature scent. I bought a bottle of the lotion, and it just arrived today. I put some on, and instantly it was as if I was in my Grandparents’ house in Ohio at Christmas time. It just made me miss my Grandma even more.
I think it’s so odd how scents can bring back memories, as if you are really there in that time and place that you are remembering. My mom died in 2003 on St. Patricks Day (which is also the day she was conceived, I know because her father was in the military and he was out on leave on that day), and when I went to her house to collect her things, I save her bottle of her signature scent, Charlie.
I still have that bottle, I don’t use it, but every once in a while I open it and smell it, and I can remember her.
I hate it when people die. It isn’t fair. But at least we can have scents and other things to help us remember the special moments ![]()
