Jobs for Men AND Women?

Published by daynafrances at 10:08 am under California, Everday Living, Working Wife? Edit This

I have always wanted to do jobs that are stereotypically for men. My dad has been a machinist since I can remember, and for some reason I always wanted to be one, just because you never hear of women machinists. My husband currently does construction, and I think I’ve heard of maybe two female contruction workers that he’s worked with, ever. I would love to do something related to construction - be a project manager or a superintendent or an inspector or something like that. I just think it would be really cool to defy the stereotype and do things that women don’t normally do. It sounds like fun to me. My dad always said he would never LET me work as a machinist, BECAUSE there are so many guys in that industry. He says it’s not a proper environment for a ‘lady’. Which is fine, but I still would want to at least try it. Now that I think about it, I’m not sure if I’ve always wanted to do things that women aren’t supposed to do, just to prove that I CAN do them, or if it has to do a little bit with rebellion. I don’t like limitations when it comes to life. Limitations at my job is fine, and limitations with expenses is fine, but when it comes to people telling me what I can and can’t, or should and shouldn’t do, I don’t deal well with that. I don’t know, it’s still fun for me to think about doing these crazy jobs that are not common for females! Anything’s possible!
